Red Knit Cap Girl (Free Crochet Pattern)

Have you heard of Red Knit Cap Girl by Naoko Stoop? It's the cutest book EVER! So, when a friend asked me to make a doll for her daughter to resemble Red Knit Cap Girl, I could not say "no." I made a teeny tiny version of her favorite book character (only about 3 inches tall) and now she can carry her dolly everywhere. Fun!

I asked the author of the books, Naoko Stoop, if I could share the pattern of this doll with you and she gave me her permission! Yay!

DMC Baroque size 10, white – Color A

Materials

Crochet hook size 10, 1.30 mm (Boye)

Crochet hook size 12, 1 mm (Boye)

Polyester filling

Gauge is not important for this project.

Stitch Guide

round – rnd, stitch(es) – st(s), single crochet – sc, half double crochet – hdc, 

slip stitch – sl st,  increase – inc, decrease – dec, back loop only – BLO, 

front loop only – FLO, chain - ch

Notes

The ch-1 at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch.

Connect each round with a slip stitch unless otherwise specified.

The back side of the doll is where you slip stitch to join rounds.

INSTRUCTIONS – PART 1: LEGS AND BODY

Legs x 2

Start by making the boots with Color B. Remember to join each rnd with a sl st and ch 1. And stuff the boots and legs as you go.

Rnd 1: mr, ch 1 and 8 sc – 8 sts

Rnd 2: inc – 16 sts

Rnd 3: (3sc, inc) x 4 – 20 sts

Rnds 4 – 5: 20 sts

Optional: You may cut out two small circles to fit in the bottom of the shoe. I used the lid of a yogurt container.

Rnd 6: (3sc, dec) x 4 – 16 sts

Rnds 7 – 9: 16 sts

Rnd 10: 16 sts in FLO

Fasten off. Now continue in the BLO of round 10 with color A.

Rnd 10: 16 sc

Rnd 11: dec – 8 sts

Rnds 12 – 14: 8 sts

Fasten off leg 1. Make the 2^nd leg but do not cut the thread after finishing round 14. Continue with the body from that round.

Body

Continue with Color A. Don’t forget to join each round with a slip stitch and ch 1. Stuff firmly as you go.

Rnd 1: 6 sc, ch 4 and connect to the 3^rd st of the other leg.

8 sc and 1 sc in each chain stitch; 1 sc in the last two sts of the other leg

You will have 24 sts after this round.

Rnds 2 – 5: 24 sts

Rnd 6: (4sc, dec) x 4 – 20 sts

Rnd 7: (3 sc, dec) x 4 – 16 sts

Rnds 8 – 10: 16 sts

Rnd 11: (2sc, dec) x 4 – 12 sts

Rnd 12: (sc, dec) x 4 – 8 sts

Rnd 13: sc in BLO

Leave a long tail for sewing. Fasten off.

INSTRUCTIONS – PART 2: ARMS

Arms x 2

Crochet the arms with Color A.

Rnd 1: mr, ch 1 and 7 sc – 7 sts

Rnds 2 – 12: 7 sts

Chain 1. Press the two sides of the open end together and crochet them together with 3 sc. Cut the thread leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew the arms on round 11 of the body.

INSTRUCTIONS – PART 3: DRESS

With Color C, start the dress in the back of round 13 of the body where you crocheted in the BL earlier. Join each round with a slip stitch.

Rnd 1: inc in FL – 16 sts

Rnd 2: (sc, inc) x 8 – 24 sts

Rnd 3: (2sc, inc) x 8 – 32 sts

Rnd 4: (3 sc, inc) x 8 – 40 sts

Rnds 5 – 6: 40 sc

Mark 7 sts of the dress to the side, right above each arm. We will use those sts later to make the sleeves.

Rnd 7: sc until you get to the 7 sts you marked earlier. Make 7 ch and sk the 7 sts. 1 sc in next.

NOTE: make sure the chain goes below the arm. We will use the BL of the chain to make the sleeves later.

Continue crocheting until you get to the other 7 sts you marked for the sleeve. Make 7 ch and skip the 7 sts. Sc in next. This chain should also go under the arm.

Sc until the end of rnd 7.

You should have 14 ch sts and 26 sts.

Rnd 8: 40 sc. Crochet in the FL of the chain

Rnds 9 – 13: 40 sc

Rnd 14: (7 sc, inc) x 5 – 45 sts

Rnd 15: (8 sc, inc) x 5 – 50 sts

Rnd 16: 50 sc

Rnd 17: (9 sc, inc) x 5 – 55 sts

Rnd 18: (10 sc, inc) x 8 – 60 sts

Rnd 19: 60 sc

Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Sleeves x 2:

With Color C, start each sleeve in the 4^th ch st (under the arm). Join rnds with a sl st.

For rnd 1, crochet in each ch st and st including the 2 side sts from when you were making the dress.

You should have 16 sts in rnd 1.

Rnd 2: 16 sts

Rnd 3: (6 sc, dec) x 2 – 14 sts

Rnd 4: 14 sts

Rnd 5: (5 sc, dec) x 2 – 12 sts

Rnd 6: 12 sts

Rnd 7: (4 sc, dec) x 2 – 10 sts

Rnd 8: 10 sc

Rnd 9: (3 sc, dec) x 2 – 8 sts

Rnd 10: 8 sc

Fasten off and weave in the ends.

INSTRUCTIONS – PART 4: HEAD, HAT, AND SCARF

Head:

With color A, start the head, join each rnd with a slip st.

Rnd 1: mr, ch 1 and 10 sc

Rnd 2: inc – 20 sts

Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x 10 – 30 sts

Rnd 4 – 9: 30 sc

Sew the eyes with Color B on rnd 8, 6 sts apart.

Rnd 10: (sc, dec) x 10 – 20 sc

Stuff the head firmly.

Rnd 11: dec – 10 sc

Fasten off.

Hat:

Make the hat with Color C. Join each rnd with sl st.

Rnd 1: mr, ch 1, 6 sc – 6 sts

Rnd 2: 6 sts

Rnd 3: (2 sc, inc) x 2 – 8 sts

Rnd 4: inc – 16 sts

Rnd 5: (sc, inc) x 8 – 24 sts

Rnd 6: 24 sts

Rnd 7: (2 sc, inc) x 8 – 32 sts

Rnd 8: (3 sc, inc) x 8 – 40 sts

Rnd 9: (4 sc, inc) x 8 – 48 sts

Rnds 10 – 16: 48 sts

Rnd 17: (4 sc, dec) x 8 – 40 sts

Rnd 18: sl st – 40 sts

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Stuff the hat lightly with polyfil. Push the head inside the hat and sew the hat to the head. I sewed the hat right above the eyes.

Sew the head to the body.

Scarf:

With Color D and 1 mm hook, chain 6. Chain 2 and turn after each row.

Row 1: 1 hdc in 2^nd ch from hook, 3 hdc – 4 sts

Rows 2 – 36: 4 hdc

Fasten off and weave in the ends. Put the scarf around the doll’s neck and glue.

Heart Shaped Box Tutorial (Tiny Valentine's Day Gift)

I made this giraffe a while ago and he just needed something to hold. I thought a little heart shaped candy box would be the perfect thing for him.

Tiny Crochet Balloons

I love making mini balloons. They are perfect for any or no occasion. And they are super easy and quick to make.

My pattern changes every time. I don't think I have made two balloons exactly the same way but here's one way I make them.

And if you don't know how to crochet but you really like these balloons, I can make them for you. Just follow this link.

Materials:
1. Aunt Lydia's size 10 crochet thread (colors of your choice)
2. 1.30 mm crochet hook
3. Polyfil
4. Sewing needle
5. Scissors
6. Stitch marker
7. Glue gun
8. Wire

Abbreviations:
mr - magic ring
sc - single crochet
hdc - half double crochet
sl st - slip stitch
st(s) - stitch(es)
ch - chain
rnd - round

Balloon:
mr, ch 1, 7 sc in the ring
Pull tight to close
round 1: 2 sc in each stitch - 14 sts
round 2: 1 sc, 2 sc in next stitch (repeat 7 times) - 21 sts
rounds 3 - 6: sc around - 21 sts
round 7: 1 sc, sc2tog (repeat 7 times) - 14 sts
round 8: sc around - 14 sts
round 9: sc2tog (repeat 7 times) - 7 sts (stuff the balloon before finishing this rnd)
round 10: sc around
round 11: 2 sc in each st - 14 sts
round 12: sl st in 2 sts
Fasten off and finish off following this tutorial.

Cut your wire (about 3 inches long). Insert in balloon and glue with the glue gun.

Bow: (leave long tails)
ch 8
row 1: 1 hdc in 2nd ch from hook; 1 hdc in each st; ch 2 and turn - 6 sts
rows 2 - 15: 1 hdc in each st; ch 2 and turn - 6 sts

Fasten off and sew both side together. Fold in half and wrap the left over thread several times in the middle. Make sure to pull tight the first time to shape the bow. Tie a knot on the back of the bow.

Ch 12 - 20 with the left over thread

Put the balloons together and wrap thread around the middle of the wire. Wrap several times and glue with the glue gun to secure. Glue the bow on the thread you just wrapped around the wire.

Tiny Crochet Snail

This little snail is one of my favorite things to make - it's simple, easy, quick, and you can use it as an ornament, put it on a headband, a necklace, as part of your fairy garden, etc. So, here's the pattern:

Materials:

1. Aunt Lydia's size 10 (ecru for head and body)

2. Aunt Lydia's size 10 (different color for shell)

3. Crochet hook - 1.30 mm

4. Stuffing

5. Wire

SNAIL:

Head and Body

Mr, ch 1, sc 10

Rnd 1-4: sc around – 10

Rnd 5: 1 sc, 2 sc; 1 sc in last – 7 sts

Rnd 6 – 9: sc around

Fasten off. Put wire inside. Close the hole (refer to this tutorial Finishing Amigurumi) and insert both ends through the same st. Tie a knot. The insert both ends through the top of the head of the snail. You will use those ends as the antennae of the snail.

Shell:

Mr, ch 1, sc 8

Rnd 1: 2 sc in each – 16

Rnd 2-7: sc around

You can use the thread from the mr to make the snail an ornament (see picture below) or just insert into a stitch and tie a knot.

Then sew the shell to the body.

Flower:
You can use any flower pattern but this is the one I use.

mr, sc 10
rnd 1: 5 dc in 1st st, sl st in next (repeat until the end)

Leaf:
mr
2 sc, 2 hdc, 1 dc, 2 hdc, 2 sc
Close mr.

Glue the leaf to the flower and then glue the snail on top.
