A Puppy Hat for Andy (Crochet Pattern)
This cute puppy hat was for my daughter's little "boyfriend." He's such a sweet boy and a true lady's man. I had to make him a hat.
The basic pattern for this hat is the same as the cow hat I made last week. You can find it HERE. Below you'll find a pattern for the things that are different.
Materials:
1. Yarn (Simply Soft):
- white
- blue
- black
- pink
2. Crochet hook: size G
3. Buttons - 2
4. Yarn needle
Hat (in white):
This hat was for a 2-year-old so I kept increasing for 11 rnds.
Mouth x 2 (in white):
mr, ch 1; hdc 8 in the ring
rnd 1: 2 hdc in each - 16
rnd 2: 1 hdc, 2 hdc (8 times) - 24
rnd 3: 1 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in 3rd (8 times) - 32
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Tongue (in pink):
mr, ch 1, sc 5 in the ring
Pull yarn but not too tight. We'll be forming a half circle.
rnd 1: 2 sc in each - 10
When you get to the top, you should have about 3 sts. Make 2 sc in each.
Fasten off and leave tail for sewing.
Ears x 2 (in white and blue):
ch 7
row 1: hdc 1 in 2nd ch from hook, hdc until the end; ch 1 and turn - 6
rows 2 - 4: hdc in 6 sts; ch 1 and turn - 6
row 5: 2 hdc in 1st st, hdc in 4 sts, 2 hdc in last st; ch 1 and turn - 8
rows 6 - 7: hdc until the end; ch 1 and turn - 8
row 8: 2 hdc in 1st st, hdc in 6 sts; 2 hdc in last st; ch 1 and turn - 10
rows 9 - 10: hdc until the end; ch 1 and turn - 10
row 11: 2 hdc in 1st st, hdc in 8 sts, 2 hdc in last; ch 1 and turn - 12
rows 12 - 16: hdc until the end; ch 1 and turn - 12
row 17: hdc 2 tog; hdc in next 8 sts, hdc 2 tog; ch 1 and turn - 10
row 18: hdc 2 tog; hdc in next 6 sts, hdc 2 tog; ch 1 and turn - 8
row 19: hdc 2 tog; hdc in next 4 sts, hdc 2 tog; ch 1 and turn - 6
row 20: hdc 2 tog; hdc in next 2 sts, hdc 2 tog; ch 1 and turn - 4
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
I sc all around the ear with the same color yarn to make it smoother.
Circles x 2 (in blue: one for the eye and one goes on the white ear):
mr, ch 1; hdc 8 in the ring
rnd 1: 2 hdc in each - 16
rnd 2: 1 hdc, 2 hdc (8 times) - 24
rnd 3: 1 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in 3rd (8 times) - 32
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Sewing:
1. Sew the tongue in the middle. I just sewed the top part.
2. Sew the mouth to the hat. The circles should overlap a little bit and should cover the top part of the tongue.
3. Sew the blue circle approx 2 rows above the mouth.
4. Sew the buttons. The eyes should go approx 4 rows above the mouth.
5. Sew the ears. Watch this tutorial if you've never sewn ears before.
6. Flaps: I added blue braids. Use 12 strings of yarn for each. Insert three strings in each of the 3 middle sts of the flap and then braid them together. Make the braids as long as you want them.
Let me know what you think about the pattern.
Happy Crocheting!!!
